How to Tell When Your Compressor Needs an Air Dryer

How to Tell When Your Compressor Needs an Air Dryer
By Tommy McGuire

Ask a Question:

Can water or moisture be damaging my compressed air system?

Answer:

Absolutely! Water corrodes pipes, valves, machinery controls. None of this is good. When controls malfunction, production can stop or product can be impaired and all this costs you time and money.

Water in Aerosol or Vapor form is more difficult to remove and requires the use of a Compressed Air Dryer.

Ask a Question:

How does water or moisture get into my compressed air?

Answer:

Through your Compressor inlet.

Water vapor (humidity-moisture) enters the air system through the air compressor inlet air filter. The air compressor sucks in approximately 7 cubic feet of atmospheric air at 0 psig, and that volume of air is compressed into 1 cubic feet of air at 100 psig. The water vapor (humidity-moisture) that was in the 7 cubic feet of atmospheric air is now compressed into 1 cubic feet of compressed air.

There are 3 forms of water in compressed air:

-Liquid water
-Aerosol (mist)
-Vapor (gas)

Any of these forms of moisture can create problems down the road in equipment or may create serious problems in your process or end product today.

Ask a Question:

How to tell if you need a Refrigerated Air Dryer?

Answer:

If you are experiencing the following problems...then you may need a Refrigerated Compressed Air Dryer:

-Liquid water is in your air lines and hoses
-Water vapor sprays out of your tool exhaust
-Pipe lines corrode and rust
-Paint Sprayer has water spots in the paint
-Your Equipment Manufacturer specifies "DRY AIR"

Ask a Question:

What can help remove moisture from my Compressed Air System?

Answer:

Refrigerated Air Dryers can be one of the best solutions to removing water and moisture from your Compressed Air System.

Ask a Question:

How does a Refrigerated Air Dryer Work?

Answer:

• The refrigerated air dryer cools the incoming compressed air first in an air-to-air heat exchanger where the outgoing cool dry air pre-cools the hot incoming air and condenses some moisture out.

• Then the incoming air enters an air-to-refrigerant heat exchanger where the air is cooled to 38ยบ F by the liquid refrigerant. This process causes the moisture to condense into liquid water and it is drained away. The out going air then enters the air-to-air heat exchanger and is warmed up to keep the outside of pipes from sweating.

• The refrigeration compressor pumps hot hi-pressure gas refrigerant (Freon) into the condenser which transfers the heat from the refrigerant gas to the ambient air as the gas condenses into a liquid.

• The liquid refrigerant (Freon) is then metered to a cold low pressure where it enters the air-to-refrigerant heat exchanger and the heat from the hot compressed air is adsorbed into the cold refrigerant (Freon). The refrigeration compressor then sucks low pressure hot gas refrigerant (Freon) into the refrigeration compressor and the cycle starts over again.

BOTTOM LINE: If you are experiencing unwanted moisture and water in your Compressed Air System, then seriously consider the addition of a Refrigerated Air Dryer. After all - what is the best way to spend your money --on constant maintenance, failed equipment and ruined end products or by investing in a properly sized compressed air dryer?

Experience proves it! Remove Water and Moisture to improve Compressed Air Quality & Efficiency!

  • Increase Production - less down time due to moisture related equipment problems
  • Reduce loss due to inferior products ruined by moisture in lines
  • Bring more profit to your bottom line

Different Types of Commercial Refrigeration

Different Types of Commercial Refrigeration
By Cas P Paton

Whenever most of us think about refrigeration or having to chill food in any way, we typically think about the type of refrigerators that we have in our home. The fact of the matter is, there is a large demand for commercial refrigeration as well that ranges from blast chillers to display freezers and fish refrigerators. Here is a little bit about the different types of commercial refrigeration that is available, and some specifics on each type of refrigeration.

The first type of commercial refrigeration that we are going to talk about are blast chillers. There are a number of different types of these chillers that are available but the main purpose behind them is to get the food down to a low temperature in the shortest amount of time possible. Most of the blast chillers that are available claim to be able to drop food from a temperature of about 70°F down to below 3°F within 90 minutes. This is especially important in order to remain compliant with some of the regulations that are in place as far as the proper handling of food is concerned. There are plenty of choices available with these blast chillers so make sure that you get one that has all the options that you need.

A couple other types of commercial refrigeration that you may need include display freezers and display fridges. These are typically the ones that you would find in a grocery store or perhaps some kind of a convenience store and allow the customer to be able to see what is on the inside without opening the doors. You may also be able to get a variety of different display fridges that do not include doors. These also can be found in a lot of different food stores and offer the convenience of being able to reach directly down into the compartment in order to pick the food that you want. These display freezers and display fridges also come in smaller sizes as well and many grocery stores keep these upfront with bottled water or other drinks on the inside.

If you're running a grocery store or a fish market, you're going to need a supply of Fish refrigerators as well. These are really just commercial refrigeration that is specifically made in order to handle fish, typically on sliding trays. All that is really necessary for you to do is to decide how much of the demand you have for fish in your market and then to get the appropriate size. Of course, there are a lot of different options that are available for these type of refrigerators as well and you should make sure that you are well prepared as it is important to keep fish at the proper temperature. You can also get fish display cases that are refrigerated in order to have the fish out where your customers can see it but still keep it at a cool temperature.

Buying Commercial Refrigeration Equipment For Your Establishment

Buying Commercial Refrigeration Equipment For Your Establishment
By Sheree Chapman

Commercial refrigeration equipment is a necessity in any cooking establishment. These units come in various sizes which can make buying the perfect equipment for your refrigeration needs difficult.

When picking out your commercial refrigeration equipment, you need to know a ball park figure on how much food you are going to need space for and how much food you are going to keep in your refrigerator at all times. The refrigeration units come in a wide variety of storage capacities and if you buy a piece that is too big you will end up wasting money that you could have used towards your cooking equipment. But if you buy a piece that ends up too small, you are just going to end up having to buy another one in order to store all of your food.

Another factor that will tie into which size of commercial refrigeration equipment you buy, is the space you have in your kitchen. Once you get all of your cooking equipment into your kitchen, you will be surprised on how little space you will end up having left. The best thing you can do if you are not sure how everything is going to fit, is to go to a restaurant equipment and supply store and take the time to have a CAD drawing drawn up for your establishment. That way you will not only know how everything is going to fit, you will also know where everything is going to go and you also have a better chance of getting exactly what you need by telling the trained professionals your exact plan for your establishment.

Understanding Refrigeration Engineering

Understanding Refrigeration Engineering
By Caitlina Fuller

Refrigeration is a surprisingly complex process for what it ultimately does in the end. It takes a lot of electronics and fluids to properly cool your food and resources. All of this is only possible through a number of technological advances that have occurred over the past century. The specifics don't matter too much to most people, but you should understand just how important refrigeration is for trade and business as a whole.

All advances in refrigeration are through refrigeration engineering ideas. This is actually a fairly complex area since a whole lot goes into the ultimate planning. The cooling can occur through a mixture of cooling and heating liquid. For your average home refrigeration unit, this won't be too complex of a process thanks to the wonders of modern technology. The refrigerators used by major businesses are a separate issue though. They often require a special installation and design.

It is important that the engineers know what they're doing when they are designing a system, because a number of the chemicals commonly used in refrigeration are somewhat dangerous to humans. This means that any flaws in the system could have some fairly serious consequences. A number of industrial units use ammonia refrigeration for their cooling fluids. You probably don't want this leaking out into your factory.

Is there a good reason to have such a high level refrigeration unit installed though. Every business won't need such a sophisticated unit. I'm sure that a mini-fridge would do for most offices. These refrigeration units are just to facilitate the storage of perishable goods or food so that a day's work doesn't go down the drain. This in itself may not seem that interesting, but the advancement is really a sign of advancement. Being able to store one's goods is a clear sign of industrial advancement and growth. Keeping things from spoiling is one of the most essential aspects of trade. It really shows just how far we've come as a society when goods can be shipped halfway across the country without any real issue.

The good news is that there are a number of sources to find a good refrigeration engineer. If you ever need to have industrial refrigeration put into place, then just take a look around for any local contractors who have previous experience. There are also now online resources for you to find and compare local contractors and engineers so that you can get the most bang for your buck.

The Benefits of Good Refrigeration

The Benefits of Good Refrigeration
By Caitlina Fuller

There are many things to consider when it comes to your refrigeration needs. The truth is that most people won't have to ever think too much about keeping their stuff cold. There is plenty of technology already available that will work just fine. Just buy a good refrigerator from the local store and you should do just fine. This doesn't really work for any big business though. A number of businesses need to consider getting a serious refrigeration system to keep their products from spoiling while in storage.

Refrigeration engineering is the science that surrounds just about everything related to the design and maintenance of refrigerators. These are the people you should call if you want to have a special refrigerator designed for your business. They might also be able to help you decide just what you want in the end. They have years of experience in the industry and usually know what their client really needs. I would suggest that you check any one of various online databases to see if the local contractors have a good history. If worse comes to worse, you can always ask around.

This doesn't help much if you don't know if you need one in the first place. This is actually fairly simple. Your industrial refrigeration needs are dependent on what exactly you buy and sell. If you are lucky enough to have only non-perishable products, then you are in the clear already. If you do have products that need to stay cold, then you should analyze just what you really need for your day-to-day operation. It may be cheaper to just rely on a warehouse if you don't actually require much cold storage each day.

If you do decide that you need your own refrigeration, then you need to consider all the options that are available for you. One of the models would be ammonia refrigeration. Ammonia fluids for the coolant pipes is a relatively affordable option for you to consider. It works well and keeps products quite cold. The only consideration is that you shouldn't go cheap on the installation. Ammonia leaks aren't good for general business. There are other alternatives available though, so don't get too set in any one way.

Choosing your own refrigeration source is certainly a difficult process. There's a lot to pick from and a lot to consider in the overall process. The benefits certainly make some consideration worth it though.

The Processes of Refrigeration and Their Benefits

The Processes of Refrigeration and Their Benefits
By Caitlina Fuller

Refrigeration is no simple subject. This is contrary to the common belief by many that refrigeration is mainly about cooling or coldness. The practice of refrigeration engineering is actually all about heat transfer. The term refrigeration could therefore be defined as heat energy removal so that a certain matter or space is colder than its surroundings. Heat energy is a form of energy that cannot be made, wiped out, or seen. On the other hand, heat energy can be moved. This concept encapsulates what is known as refrigeration.

To be able to understand the theory of refrigeration, one must consider the fact that cold is merely the nonexistence of heat. Heat must therefore be displaced in such equipment as the household refrigerator. First, the heat is taken by the evaporator which is then carefully displaced to the external parts of the refrigerator through the condenser. The condenser would be the one to make cooler air out of the transferred heat.

There are many uses for refrigeration-industrial refrigeration is more recognized when such words as refrigeration plants, ice plants, food processing companies, freeze drying, breweries, wineries, tube ice, crushed ice, or ice cubes are mentioned. Here are the qualifying features for industrial refrigeration:

• The size should be 100 tons or even larger
• The use of ammonia R-717
• A centralized system
• -60 to 55 degrees Fahrenheit of load temperature with usually at least a single load below 40 degrees Fahrenheit.

Ammonia refrigeration plays a huge part on the ever-growing refrigeration industry. All over the world, there is a growing interest on the use of ammonia as a refrigerant. Since chlorine and fluorine have had restrictions, ammonia has since become popular and has emerged as a widely-used refrigerant. Also, since chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) and hydrochlorofluorocarbons (HCFCs) are now pending when it comes to the area of refrigeration, ammonia would, in the next few years, still continue to rise as one of the leading refrigerants in the world.

The refrigeration grade for ammonia is at 99.98 percent pure and is quite free of impurities such as water. This is also readily available and cheap-and its most qualifying feature to become an efficient refrigerant is its high absorption of heat.

Ammonia is an effective ingredient in refrigerating food and beverages. It may be considered as highly hazardous because of its irritating odors and corrosiveness but this compound is hardly combustible; hence, it is now widely used on air conditioning units and food processing plants.

Looking at all these aspects of refrigeration, one can deduce that it is far from simple; and it has many benefits to modern society. Minus these benefits, man would definitely not be able to cope with the onslaught of modernization.
